 Middle East: My Second Home

As an expat, adapting to a new country involves learning everything necessary for survival, from the laws to the food and attire, especially here in the Middle East.

We are aware that the Middle East is a Muslim region with its own traditions, culture, and religion. As expats, it is not only our duty to abide by their regulations but also to respect their customs.

I came to the Middle East specifically in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to seek better opportunities, not only for my career but also for my family's financial well-being. Although there are no guarantees of securing a better job, I took the risk and pursued my plans.

Job Search

Initially, I believed that finding a job in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) would be easy, but it's not. It requires determination and patience to spend time sending emails and logging into platforms like Indeed, LinkedIn, and Naukrigulf. As a matter of fact, I tried to engage also in walk-in job hunting with my flatmates, which proves to me that it is very exhausting and sometimes leads to disappointment due to the offered salaries.

Job Offer

I received two job offers that I declined: one for a real estate agent and another for a compliance analyst in an exchange company. Both were good jobs to start with, but the offers were low. Therefore, I tried again to apply to some other companies. Luckily, the boyfriend of my friend gave me the email address of the recruitment specialist of his company, and I tried my luck. I kept on sending emails, not just once a day, but sometimes up to five times a day. And that's where it started. I received an mail for an interview, and I went there. My luck didn't stop there since on my way back home, I received a confirmation that I was shortlisted and needed to comply with their requirements. I grabbed the chance since their offer was good. To make the story short, this is where I work right now.

Conclusion

In conclusion, being an expat in a country is a big risk. You cannot foresee what your life might be there. It could be a success or miserable. However, you must be determined to accept the challenges of being an expat to survive especially here in the Middle East. So my question would be, are you 𝗜𝗡 𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗨𝗧?
