Partitions: A Practical Room Accommodation in UAE

Hello, Madalang Pipz! I'm your storyteller for today, and I'd like to share some insights about practical room accommodations for those employed in a company in the UAE, with a live-out arrangement, just like me.

Years ago, I planned to explore greener pastures outside my home country. I tried but failed. However, following the recommendation of a former colleague who invited me to join her in the UAE, I took a risk and followed my dream of becoming an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW).

Abu Dhabi, UAE, became my second home, and finding a place to stay was my first challenge. My friend offered me a spot as a bed spacer in her friend's flat. On the other hand, my partner's cousin recommended staying in a partition. Out of the recommendations, I opt to stay in the partition.

 

Initially, I thought partitions here in the UAE were similar to boarding houses in the Philippines, but they are not. Starting from its cost vs its space, its number of tenants, and etc. However, we don't have any choice but to embrace the reality of living here in UAE in what they call "Partitions."

Room partitions are created within a large room called a flat. The cost varies depending on the type of partition you want to rent. Profit-wise, some landlords make a flat congested by creating more room partitions. However, the good thing is that the price of a partition includes all utilities, such as Wi-Fi, water, and electricity bills. Oh, and before I forget, all partitioned rooms here in Abu Dhabi are air-conditioned. Moreover, the main purpose of living in a partition is that it provides "privacy".

Types of Room Partitions

• Fully Closed Partition:  Ideal for tenants who wish to have full privacy. This type of partition accommodates a single bed, double deck bed, bunk bed, or even a loft bed. However, if you opt for a loft bed, the price may be higher, especially if you choose a partition with a window.

• Ratan Partitions: These partitions are quite cheaper than fully closed partitions. They are created in flats where the building owner does not allow tenants to put up semi-permanent partitions.

• Curtain Partitions or Bed Spacer: This is the cheapest type of partition. It typically uses a bunk bed or double deck to reduce space consumption.

How to find a  Room Partition in the UAE

 

Most property owners and flat owners post their vacant partitions on online platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Some also use community boards to offer listings for available flats and room partitions, especially here in Abu Dhabi. Others find options through recommendations from friends and colleagues. But the most important thing to bear in mind is to find a place where you can live comfortably, regardless of the type of partition it may be.

In conclusion, room partitions play a significant role in the lives of employed expats by offering a balance of privacy and affordability. It is a practical and economical way to live comfortably while working abroad.
